As part of a comprehensive company analysis, ACLARIS recently examined the carbon footprint of various products we sell. For this analysis, our suppliers provided CO₂ data (kg of CO₂) for the raw materials used in each product. In addition, we gathered data on CO₂ emissions throughout the entire value chain: from manufacturing through logistics, all the way up until products are in use.
The results of the analysis were clear: raw materials cause over 2/3 of emissions, making them the main driver of emissions. Manufacturing, on the other hand, contributes the smallest share of emissions and thus plays an insignificant role overall.
The largest potential for reducing emissions thus clearly lies in the selection and optimization of the materials in our products. For example, by using materials that are certified according to International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS standards and by implementing other CO₂ reduction measures, we have already managed to lower the carbon footprint of ACLARIS in-tank filters and filter cartridges by 19%.
One of our main objectives is to continue reducing ACLARIS’s carbon footprint, not only for our existing products but also when developing new water filters. This demonstrates that sustainability is an integral part of ACLARIS’s design process – right from the very start.
